C) Advance 4684, sleeveless evening or formal dress, fitted bodice, low neckline front and back is framed with off-shoulder band that may be gathered at center front, full gathered skirt, puffs at waistline have break at front and back center (and could easily be entirely omitted), size 14, bust 32, unprinted/precut, 1947, $45 including shipping/insurance.

B) 2 Bound Volumes – Theatre Magazine, 1921 and 1924. Theatre Magazine was published monthly by the Theatre Magazine Company, New York City, New York. The content focused on Broadway productions, opera, historic luminaries of the stage, prominent figures in the world of dance, popular stars, and new talent. In addition, each issue featured regular sections devoted to cutting edge fashion worn by recognized theatre personalities, current motion pictures and movie stars, and synopses of running Broadway productions. There are literally hundreds of different stage, opera, and movie actors shown and discussed, many captured by known art photographers.
The issues are loaded with photos of and sketches of pre-flapper 1920s fashions, stage costumes, stage sets (photographed during performances), dancers in costume, opera performers in costume, etc. There are many period advertisements including Bonwit Teller, Victrola, Paramount Pictures, Ritz Carlton, Bergdorf Goodman, Van Raalte Veils, Whiting & Davis Mesh Bags, Coty, Houbigant, Brunswick Radiola, plus ads from smaller establishments for corsets, shoes, petticoats, and much more. Also includes are several excellent automobile ads.
I have scanned representative illustrations from each large volume. The volumes are ex-library, have library bindings that show edge wear but are solid and tight, and have discreet library stampings. There are sporadic page tip turndowns and a few margin tears, nothing serious that detracts from content. There are 4 missing pages, see descriptions below:
1) January through June bound issues, 1921 – This set of issues was bound-in WITH covers. I have shown 4 of the 5 included covers in the scan. The April cover was omitted, plus there are three pages missing (page 335-6 of May 1921, page 253-4 of April 1921, page 157-8 of March 1921). Binding is cloth, corners and spine bound in leather. Covers have edge wear and some tiny paint flecks, binding is strong and text block is tight.
2) July through November bound issues, 1924 – Although the spine states July-Dec 1924, this volume does not contain the December issue and it has not been removed, so it obviously was not originally included. Also, this volume was bound-in WITHOUT the issue covers. Page 31-2 of October is missing. This volume has a standard heavy green library binding that shows edge wear, some scuffing and fading. Spine is straight and tight, text block is tight.

The volumes are being offered together and are a treasure for anyone who loves 1920s fashion, costume, and/or performance arts. $185 for both volumes including media shipping within the U.S.

C) 1930s Chic Parisien Fashion Magazine, Beau-Arts des Modes, heavy paper covers, folio, 16” x 12”, 16 pages per issue. A lovely, somewhat scarce, monthly fashion publication that was available in Paris, London, New York, Vienna, and Berlin. Each issue is a collection of 12 colored plates, each plate illustrating several current Paris fashions with back views, with a forward (in several languages including English) that describes each garment in terms of fabrics and construction details. The colored plates (on heavy stock) are truly magnificent and would be wonderful framed. Fashions include day and afternoon dresses, plus evening wear.
I have several different issues, all issues have cover wear, some covers are separated, each issue with a discreet teacher’s college stamp. Some issues have a staple or two at the spine, which I am certain are not original. Some fashion plates may have wear at an outer edge of the generous margin that does not interfere with the illustration, any other shortcomings are pointed out below. Most of the wear is restricted to the covers and does not affect the plates. Representative plates and a cover are shown in the scan, colors are stronger than scans indicate. Each issue is priced $135 - $150 including shipping and insurance.

1. January 1931: covers separated, 10 plates 16” x 12”, 135 including shipping.
2. February 1931: covers separated, back cover has long tear and is worn, issue stapled, first interior text page has some red discoloration, 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, $150 including shipping.
3. April 1931: covers separated, issue stapled, first text page has reddish discoloration at very upper edge, 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, $150 including shipping.
4. May 1931: covers worn at spine and stapled, 9 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, $135 including shipping.
5. June 1931: covers separated and worn at spine area, stapled 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, a couple of plates have storage discoloration at one edge which does not interfere with illustration, $150 including shipping.

January 1932: covers worn at spine and stapled, unlike other issues all the plates in this issue have a gold inner “frame” (in celebration of the 400th edition of the publication) and most plates have light vertical crease about 1” into the left plate margin, 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, $150 including shipping.
9. February 1932: covers separated and stapled, most plates with subtle soft thumbing indent and light soiling at lower corner, 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, $150 including shipping.
10. April 1932: covers separated and stapled, very light crinkle at outermost margin of text and plates, 10 plates 16” x 12”, one double-page plate, no evening wear, $135 including shipping.

E) 19th Century Young Ladies' Journal Pattern Supplements: Scarce full-scale pattern supplements from the Young Ladies Journal, 1883-1885, printed in London. These are in large newspaper format, printed on heavy pulp newsprint. One side of the paper has b/w engravings of a large number of fashionable garments, patterns were available by mail order. There is a brief description of each fashion with details relating mostly to suggested fabrics. The other side has full-scale patterns for two of the garments shown on the illustrated side.
These are not multi-line patterns but are true, full-scale patterns (although some lines are overlaid). All are in good condition, showing some wear at fold lines, light foxing, short tears paper is soft and pliable, no brittleness. The sheets are far too large for the scanner, but I have shown the upper portion of each sheet's front fold and a scan of the garments for which patterns are given (if shown). I have the following supplements, actual Journal not included, supplement sheet only, each supplement is $75 including U.S. shipping:

1) January 1883 - patterns for ladies' walking jacket, polonaise for girl 8-10 years of age, and braiding designs for ladies' and children's dresses and jackets. Engraved illustrations include sleeves, walking dresses, hats and bonnets, ball gowns, tea gown, dinner dress, cloak, collar, waistband, more. 2) May 1885 - patterns for a ladies' mantle trimmed with lace pleating, young lady’s pereline mantle trimmed with passementerie and pleated lace, and diagrams for cutting out a bed pocket and a watch pocket. I feel fairly certain that the illustrations for these patterns are on the opposite side (as there are over a dozen mantles illustrated) but I am unable to discern which specific b/w engravings are taken from the color engraving in the magazine (that the pattern matches). Engraved illustrations include numerous walking dresses with mantles, redingote, several hats and bonnets, home dresses, dinner dresses, three ball gowns, tea gown, more. Good condition. $75 including shipping.
3) June 1885 - pattern for a ladies’ figaro bodice and a ladies’ figaro vest, and an embroidery design of water plants for a cheval screen.
