1) Home Art Crochet Book, edited by Flora Klickmann, Frederick A. Stokes Company, New York, undated but appears to be 1915-1920, 118 pages, heavy cardboard covers, 9” x 5.75”. Crocheted lace designs for lingerie, edgings and insertions, borders for tray cloths and doilies, deep laces for tablecloths and valances, motifs for inlet work and Irish lace. This is a book of fine laces, similar to those found in earlier Weldon’s publications, presumes knowledge of crochet (not for beginners). Front cover tear from lower edge, covers corners have rounding and wear, covers have general soiling and scuffing, interior very good, very clear b/w photos, $50 including shipping;
2) Crocheted Edgings and Insertions - Vol #2, Adeline Cordet, 1916, paper covers. Directions for a number of intricate edgings, insertions, medallions, and laces, including some night gown yokes, rough covers, contents intact and very usable, book is complete, $14 including shipping. Please note: this book was republished in 1934 with an identical cover under the name Grandmother Clark’s Crocheted Edgings and Insertions Book 26;
3) Home Needlework Magazine, published by Florence Publishing Company, Florence, MA, small magazine format, monthly publication, each issue has wonderful crochet/knitting and embroidery projects, plus often a Lesson in Home Dressmaking. I have dozens of different issues from the 1890s-1916, email for entire list, discount for volume orders, all issues complete, some covers loose. Issue featured above is August 1914, 44 pages, crochet and knitting: bed sacque, centerpieces and doilies, tumbler doily of crochet and braid, collar, tatted dress accessories (collar and cuff, belt, jabot, net jabot with tatting), wool crochet hug-me-tight and afghan, edgings in crochet and braid (rick rack, coronation cord), baby’s bonnet, and embroidery: French and eyelet, towels, white linen bags, attractive colored embroideries, waist and collar, French knot, holiday embroidered gifts, plus a few related needlework and craft items. 4) Variety Crochet Books, Carmela Testa Company Inc, Boston, MA, paper covers. I have five Testa Variety titles: a) Variety Book 1 – Italian Cut Work and Filet Lace, 1921, 33 pages, instruction and designs for point lace, Italian cutwork, point needle edge, netting, Italian hemstitching with and without clusters, tassels, plus a wide range of filet designs including many flowers, rabbit, rooster, alphabets, designs for church linens, and cherubs in several different mesh sizes, $50 including shipping; b) Variety Book 2, 1917, 35 pages, instruction and designs for point lace, Italian cutwork, filet crochet, Roman cutwork, plus point needle edge, crocheted edges, table runner with punto riccio and punto reale, tassels, and Venetian point lace. Book has been removed from a binder and has two punched holes at spines, covers have some creasing and edge wear, interior pages have moisture line at outer page margins that does not interfere with content, $50 including shipping; c) Variety Book 3 – Italian Cut Work and Antique Filet Lace, 1922, 15 pages, instruction and designs for fancy Italian drawn stitches, serpentine designs, bar covered with darning stitch, tidy for chair back, designs for runners and borders, luncehon set showing double square stitch, knotted lace edges, coarse filet lace, Sarindian filet lace. 5) Weldon’s Practical Knitter, No. 99, Volume 9, Fourth Series, undated but late 19th century, 14 pages, magazine format in newsprint, paper covers (shown in scan). How to knit socks and stockings for boys and girls, 19 illustrations. Includes directions for baby’s first sock, cellular pattern sock, sock with open striped front, feather pattern sock, dice check stocking for youth, child’s sock in rib of two and one, boy’s double cross-bar plaid hose, sock in basket pattern, more. Back cover has listing of 400 Weldon’s publications by series. Booklet has been folded in half, upper page corners have turndowns, paper is pliable and clean, $18 including shipping. 6) The Needleworker – Number 6, April 1915, 18 pages, small magazine format, an early 20th century English publication emphasizing knitting and crochet projects. Includesknitting designs for baby’s first shirt with long sleeves, heel and instep and toe for any stocking or sock, sock for child of 12 months, curtain tie in knitting and crochet, child’s Russian coatee in furry wool with matching Russian hat, cardigan jacket, scarf, cap for 12 month old baby boy; crochet designs for needle book, edging on braid, spectacle case in double stitch, article on crochet for beginners with simple pattern suitable for shawls or mats. 7) Needlework For All, London Guild of Needlework, small magazine format, 9.5” x 6”, paper covers.
